In this intense and dark dramatic film, social themes of mental illness and self image are explored. A mother-daughter relationship that has been failing for some time, comes to a breaking point when each are forced to examine their own disorders. Maura is disgusted by her mother’s binge-eating while she herself suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder. When their relationship seems like it will not recover, Maura’s mother reveals a dark secret about her past that has contributed to their current suffering–a secret that will be very difficult to recover from.
